We are thrilled to announce that two researchers from ELTRUN, the eBusiness Research Center, Stavros Vatikiotis and Timoleon Farmakis, participated in the APMS 2024 (IFIP International Conference on Advances in Production Management Systems), held from September 8th to 12th, 2024, in Chemnitz/Zwickau, Germany. The APMS conference is a premier event that brings together academics, industry leaders, and professionals to explore the latest innovations in production management systems.
Optimising Hybrid Flexible Flowshop Scheduling
Stavros Vatikiotis, together with co-authors Ilias Mpourdakos, Dimitrios Papathanasiou, and Ioannis Mourtos, addresses another critical area in modern production systems in their paper titled “Makespan Minimisation in Hybrid Flexible Flowshops with Buffers and Machine-Dependent Transportation Times.” This research addresses the challenges posed by complex production environments, where jobs must be processed in specific sequences across multiple stages, with added constraints such as limited-capacity buffers and machine-dependent transportation times.

Circular and Resilient Information Systems
Timoleon Farmakis, in collaboration with Anastasios Koukopoulos, Georgios Zois, Ioannis Mourtos, Stavros Lounis, and Kostas Kalaboukas, contributed a paper titled “Developing a Circular and Resilient Information System: A Design Science Approach. ” The paper tackles one of the critical challenges of the modern manufacturing landscape—building systems, as well as enabling technologies that are both sustainable and resilient in the face of disruptions.
